"State of Our State: Women in the Workforce in Tennessee"

Shanna Hughey, President of ThinkTennessee, and Elizabeth Gedmark, Senior Staff Attorney/Director of the Southern Office for A Better Balance, will present on the State of Our State: Women in the Workforce in Tennessee. A recent policy brief by these organizations shows that 40% of female-headed households in Tennessee live in poverty. This program will address the obstacles women face in achieving economic security, steps taken both by local and State governments to address these obstacles, and lessons from other States to address the obstacles women face, including laws providing reasonable pregnancy accommodations, pay equity laws, and high-quality, state funded preschools.
