Applying Mindfulness and Meditation Techniques to Improve Wellbeing in the Legal Field - Presented by the LAW Health & Wellness Committee

This CLE will discuss the perceived threat that triggers stress hormones that produce psychological and physical changes in the body, leading to a host of health problems. An explanation and definition of mindfulness will follow the discussion. The CLE will also cover the Harvard studies conducted at Massachusetts General Hospital and the benefits of meditation in cultivating default and positive thinking patterns. The speaker will guide attendees through several mindfulness meditation exercises that calm the nervous system. Attendees come away with tips and tools on establishing a daily practice, along with books, apps, and retreat options for attorneys.

Speaker: Joanna McCracken

Joanna McCracken is an attorney, meditation teacher, and yoga instructor.

Joanna is the founder of Mind Your Business. The organization teaches lawyers, firms, and other legal groups how to use meditation, mindfulness, and yoga techniques to overcome occupational stress and create healthier working environments. She gives wellbeing presentations at CLE conferences, legal seminars, and law schools. Her primary practice area is divorce - one of the most emotionally charged areas of law.

Joanna understands first-hand the pressures and strain of working in a high-stress profession. Her knowledge and practice of meditation, mindfulness, and yoga have enabled her to manage the high demands of her professional and personal lives and appreciate, enjoy, and thrive in each area.
